What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying: "I reach for the Deviator Mitten when I’m skinning uphill or trail running in frigid conditions. It’s breathable enough that my hands don’t overheat, but still insulates against the chill with its hybrid design. The wind-resistant outer and mapped insulation really shine when temps drop but you’re still moving fast." When we’re moving hard in cold conditions—be it a frosty pre-dawn trail run or a steep skintrack in the backcountry—we need hand protection that keeps up without overheating. That’s exactly where the Outdoor Research Deviator Mitten excels. Blending wind-resistant protection with mapped insulation and breathable stretch panels, this mitten offers just the right mix of warmth and ventilation for high-output winter adventures. Its hybrid construction combines VerticalX™ Octa insulation on the back of the hand with breathable softshell across the palm and sides, giving us warmth where we need it and breathability where we don’t. The result is a mitten that punches above its weight, offering excellent dexterity, moisture control, and packability. From alpine ascents to fast-paced winter hikes, we stash these in our pack every time.
