What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying: "I’ve relied on the Fitzroy during some of the coldest, wettest belays and it always delivers. The PrimaLoft Gold Cross Core insulation is impressively warm yet still packs down small, and I never worry about it wetting out. The hood fits perfectly over my helmet, and the overlayer design makes it simple to throw on when conditions turn. It’s the jacket I grab when I can’t compromise on protection." Born from testing in Scotland’s brutal winters and Patagonia’s unpredictable storms, the Mountain Equipment Fitzroy Jacket is designed to thrive where weather is at its worst. Built to be pulled on over your shell, it brings instant warmth and protection without fuss—whether we’re refueling in a whiteout, racking up for the next pitch, or bracing against spindrift at a summit belay. With PrimaLoft Gold Hi-Loft Ultra insulation enhanced by Cross Core aerogel technology, the Fitzroy stays warm, dries quickly, and maintains loft even after repeated packing and damp conditions. The Drilite Loft shell is windproof and highly weather-resistant, while the Mountain HC Hood is helmet-compatible, fully adjustable, and wired to keep vision clear in driving wind and snow. Strategic insulation mapping balances warmth with mobility: 120g in the body, 80g in the hood and sleeves, plus reinforced 60g shoulder panels to resist compression under a pack. Thoughtful details—articulated sleeves, glove-friendly zippers, and a harness-ready hem—make it clear this jacket is built for real alpinism. From ice routes to storm-battered ridgelines, the Fitzroy remains a dependable alpine insulation layer we can count on.
