The
Lacoste Boys Mesh Lined Diamond Taffeta Tracksuit in Black is a two-piece tracksuit set for boys aged 2 to 16 years, made from 100% polyester in Vietnam. It sits across both the Activewear and Loungewear collections at Childsplay Clothing. The construction distinguishes it from the plain woven Off Court tracksuit in the same range: this one uses a diamond-patterned taffeta outer fabric with a mesh lining, which gives it a more technical, sport-influenced appearance and a different set of practical properties.
Taffeta is a crisp, smooth woven fabric with a subtle sheen — it has a slightly more structured and formal quality than plain woven polyester, and the diamond pattern adds a geometric texture that is visible in the fabric weave rather than printed on top of it. The mesh lining is the functional addition: mesh is a loosely woven or knitted fabric with open holes that allow air to circulate, which makes the tracksuit more breathable during active wear than an unlined or fleece-lined equivalent. The combination of a structured taffeta outer and a breathable mesh lining makes this tracksuit well suited to active boys who generate heat during play and sport, and who need a tracksuit that looks considered rather than purely functional. The plain black colourway and Lacoste branding give it a clean, graphic finish that works across casual, active, and smart-casual contexts. This is a designer boys’ tracksuit with a more technical construction than a standard jersey or fleece set, made in Vietnam.
Buying Advice
Taffeta and movement: Taffeta is a woven fabric with no stretch, which gives it a neat silhouette but less freedom of movement than a jersey or stretch-woven tracksuit. For boys who are very active during wear — running, climbing, or playing sport — the lack of stretch is worth considering. For everyday casual wear, school non-uniform days, and active-but-not-sporting use, the taffeta construction is comfortable and practical.
The mesh lining: The mesh lining adds breathability but also adds a layer of fabric against the skin. For boys who run warm, this is an advantage — the mesh allows air to circulate and reduces the clammy feeling that an unlined woven tracksuit can create during activity. For boys who feel the cold, the mesh lining provides minimal additional warmth, so a base layer underneath is advisable in cold weather.
Care: Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Turn inside out before washing to protect the taffeta outer surface. Avoid tumble drying on high heat, which can affect both the taffeta and the mesh lining. Do not iron directly on the fabric. Wash with similar dark colours to maintain the black tone.
