What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:"I keep this hoodie clipped to my harness because it’s warm for how little it weighs. The down rebounds fast after being stuffed in the pocket, and the DWR treatment actually helps when I’m brushing against wet snow or ice. It layers cleanly without feeling bulky."When cold mornings roll in and the climb begins, we trust the Black Diamond Approach Down Hoodie to bring warmth without slowing us down. Its slim profile layers easily over a baselayer or under a hardshell, trapping reliable heat with 800-fill down that lofts quickly when temperatures drop. The nylon ripstop shell stands up to brushes with rock or ice, and the hood adds instant coverage during exposed belays and windy ridgelines. On longer missions, the technical details make the Approach a dependable part of our kit. HyperDRY down resists moisture, keeping loft intact through flurries or spindrift, while the GTT Empel DWR improves wet-weather resilience without relying on PFCs. The jacket stuffs into its own pocket for fast transitions, and the internal drop pockets warm gloves or hold skins when layering shifts. Whether we're approaching ice climbs or moving fast on winter trails, the Approach Down Hoodie supports steady, confident travel in harsh conditions.
