HISTORY ASPECTS - The North American F-100 Super Sabre was a pioneering aircraft in the history of military aviation, becoming the first U.S. Air Force fighter capable of sustained supersonic flight in level flight. Developed as a successor to the highly successful F-86 Sabre, the F-100 entered service during the 1950s and represented a significant advancement in speed, firepower, and operational capability. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojet engine, the Super Sabre was designed as both an air superiority fighter and a fighter-bomber, making it one of the most versatile combat aircraft of the early Cold War period.Aircraft FW-871 served with the United States Air Force during an era when NATO air forces maintained a strong presence in Europe to deter potential aggression from the Warsaw Pact. The F-100 became a familiar sight at bases across Europe, where it participated in training exercises, air defense missions, and tactical strike operations. The type played a key role in demonstrating American air power and technological superiority during a period of intense geopolitical tension. After its operational career ended, FW-871 was preserved and eventually became part of the collection of the National Military Museum in Soesterberg, the Netherlands, where it serves as a reminder of the Cold War aviation era and the close cooperation between NATO allies. The F-100 Super Sabre saw extensive combat service in several conflicts, most notably the Vietnam War. During that conflict, F-100s flew thousands of missions including close air support, armed reconnaissance, and tactical strike operations. The aircraft was one of the first USAF jet fighters committed to combat in Southeast Asia and earned a reputation for reliability and effectiveness under difficult conditions. Beyond Vietnam, the Super Sabre also supported NATO readiness missions throughout the Cold War and served with several allied air forces around the world.Although eventually replaced by more advanced aircraft such as the F-4 Phantom II and F-15 Eagle, the F-100 established an important legacy as a transitional aircraft between the first generation of jet fighters and the more sophisticated supersonic combat aircraft that followed. Preserved examples such as FW-871 allow visitors to appreciate the technological achievements of the era and the important role the Super Sabre played in shaping modern tactical air power. This 1 - 72 scale model faithfully reproduces F-100 Super Sabre FW-871 as displayed at the National Military Museum in Soesterberg. Featuring authentic markings, detailed panel lines, and the sleek profile of America's first operational supersonic fighter, this replica captures the spirit of a legendary Cold War aircraft. Perfect for collectors of military aviation and museum aircraft, it is an outstanding display piece honoring the service and legacy of the iconic Super Sabre.
