HISTORY ASPECTS - The Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a was one of the most successful Allied fighter aircraft of the First World War and became a favorite among many of the conflict’s leading aces. Developed by the Royal Aircraft Factory, the Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 combined speed, stability, and firepower, making it an effective opponent against German fighters. By September 1918, S.E.5a fighters equipped numerous Royal Air Force squadrons operating over the Western Front, including No. 74 Squadron, one of the RAF’s most distinguished fighter units. One of the squadron's notable pilots was Keith Logan Caldwell, a highly decorated New Zealand ace credited with more than two dozen aerial victories during the war.
