What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:"The Columbia BlueVista Hill 5in Short became my default warm weather hiking short almost immediately because the lightweight polyester breathes well enough to keep up with hot exposed climbs without feeling flimsy. The UPF 50 protection is a genuine bonus on long ridgeline sections, and the utility loop gets more use than I expected for clipping a small stuff sack on the go."Some gear decisions are complicated. The Columbia BlueVista Hill 5in Short is not one of them. Lightweight, breezy, and built with just enough structure to handle a real trail, these shorts make getting out the door on a hot summer morning as straightforward as it should be. Columbia designed them to move naturally through a full day of hiking without ever feeling like they're working against you.Omni-Shade UPF 50 construction shields skin from UVA and UVB rays across long open stretches of trail where the sun has nowhere to hide. The lightweight 100% polyester fabric keeps air moving and the feel relaxed from the first mile to the last, while an elastic drawcord waist adjusts easily for a secure fit that holds up through every climb and descent. Hand pockets and a back pocket handle the trail essentials, and a utility loop gives you a ready clip point for a carabiner, a bandana, or anything else that needs to come along for the ride. At a 5-inch inseam, the fit is versatile enough to carry comfortably from trailhead to town.
