What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:"I've taken the Spot 400-R on everything from alpine starts to late-night camp kitchen duty, and the digital lock mode alone has saved me more than once from a dead headlamp at the trailhead. The brightness memory is a small detail that makes a big difference when you're fumbling around in the dark and just need it to come back on exactly where you left it."Long before the summit push begins, the Black Diamond Spot 400-R Headlamp earns its place on the gear checklist. Tossed into a pack for a dawn alpine start, clipped to a helmet for a skin track, or strapped on for a late camp chore, this is the light that shows up ready regardless of what the evening has in store. Black Diamond built the Spot 400-R around the kind of reliability that stops headlamps from becoming a story you tell at the trailhead. At full power, 450 lumens throw a beam 86 meters out — enough to navigate technical terrain or pick a line through the trees well ahead of your next step. Multiple modes cover every situation from red night vision that preserves your eyes' dark adaptation to a strobe for emergency visibility, and the integrated battery meter takes the guesswork out of knowing when to recharge. The digital lock prevents accidental activation in a pack or pocket, so the battery you left with is the battery you arrive with. Wrapped in a recycled elastic strap that fits over hats, helmets, and bare heads alike, and rated IP67 waterproof to one meter, the Spot 400-R is built to be grabbed without a second thought every single time.
